Elden Ring gets a new trailer ahead of the February 25 launch

Ahead of its launch on February 25, 2022, developer FromSoftware has released a new trailer for its highly anticipated title, Elden Ring. The big 6-minute trailer touches on some of the lore and expands on the mechanics of the game.

From the mind of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin, Elden Ring is an action RPG (role-playing game) set in a dark fantasy world of the Lands Between. Ruled by great heroes inheriting the blood of Queen Marika the Eternal, the dark fantasy realm is home to several hostile and secret entities with drastic implications on the surrounding world.

You play as a descendant of the Terni, a group of heroes once banished from the lands. After the destruction of the Elden Ring and the scattering of its shards, players must embark on this treacherous journey to seek them out, restore the ring, and ultimately become Lord Elden. Like everyone else Souls-like titleyou’ll encounter a range of extremely difficult bosses, an unfolding mystery, and fearsome monsters around every corner.

This time, FromSoftware has included a sprawling open-world feature, allowing you to explore the lands at your leisure and slowly progress towards your goal. In one PlayStation interviewgame director Hidetaka Miyazaki said exploration has been balanced with boss fights so that the open world isn’t ignored by players.

For navigation, players can rely on a map to place markers or beacons for locations of interest. Quick travel to previously discovered checkpoints is now possible via the map. Previously, this could only be done by visiting bonfires or idols in certain locations around the world.

For faster traversal, players can summon Torrent, a spectral steed (horse) anytime and anywhere except dungeon areas. The demo gameplay also proved the horse to be quite effective at killing bosses as it is quite nimble and fluid in mobility. When falling from great heights, you can even time the jump button to stop the fall and ensure a safe landing.

The player character can be fully customized – from appearance and armor to abilities. While warriors specialize in close combat, casters excel in ranged magic attacks. There are a variety of pre-made classes to choose from – or you can master a bit of everything to create your character in a way that suits your playstyle.

Weapons and equipment such as fire arrows can be crafted on the fly, as well as consumables to provide health or strength benefits. You can also summon AI-based spirits to aid you in battle, or if you’re feeling a little lonely, invite a friend to travel together, explore, and take on tough enemies.

Elden Ring is launching on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC via Steam.
