ISRO says it’s working on new age technology where spacecraft can self-destruct with a “kill button”

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) seeks to develop futuristic technologies, which will help prepare “the country for the future for the next four to five decades.”

ISRO hosted DTDI-Technology-Conclave-2021, a futuristic and disruptive technology summit aimed at unleashing potential technologies in the space sector. The Directorate of Technological Development and Innovation or DTDI is a technological development wing of ISRO. The conclave ended on November 26.

New technologies such as self-eating rockets will be a big boon to the space industry as the scientific community as well as governments talk about the risk posed by space debris.

As the EurAsian Times recently reported, the US State Department accused Russia of performing an anti-satellite missile test against one of its own satellites. This action was condemned by Washington because it would have generated debris that threatened not only the International Space Station but also its crew.

The debris forced the ISS crew members to hide inside their capsules to save their lives. ISRO has been working to find a solution to overcome the problem of debris generated by missing satellites in orbit or rocket thrusters and payload shroud that remain in orbit after launch.

Earlier this year, ISRO successfully demonstrated for the first time in the country quantum free space communication over a distance of 300m, according to Hindustan Times reported.

On the other hand, China already has a satellite dedicated to quantum computing. The satellite named Micius had successfully demonstrated quantum communication between two cities – Beijing and Vienna – 7,600 km away, according to to live science.

The DTDI Conclave was inaugurated by the Indian Minister of State (Space), Dr Jitender Singh. He praised the space agency for its futuristic technological efforts and said such technologies “will take India’s space capabilities to the next level.”
